The Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of his friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the second with tears,
but he said that what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth,
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
the cars, the house, the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard,
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left.
(You could be at "dash mid-range.")

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what’s true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And...be less quick to anger,
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be pleased with the things they have to say
about how you spent your dash?

“THE BUM”

ABOUT A WEEK AFTER I GOT SAVED, I WAS SITTING AT WORK. THE OLD DEVIL WAS TALKING TO ME, MAKING ME DOUBT. HE SAID " YOUR NOT REALLY SAVED, IT'S ALL A JOKE, WHO EVER HEARD OF GETTING SAVED AT A “MUSIC MANSHION"

SO I STARTED HAVING DOUBTS....MAYBE I'M NOT REALLY SAVED I STILL SLIP & SAY BAD WORDS SOMETIMES.

I STARTED PRAYING TO MYSELF RIGHT THERE AT MY DESK.

"LORD IF YOU ARE REAL & I AM REALLY SAVED THEN

GIVE A SIGN"

NOT THINKING ANYMORE ABOUT IT ABOUT AN HOUR LATER THIS "BUM" CAME IN THE DEALERSHIP & SAID I WOULD LIKE TO WORK HERE. WELL EVERYONE LOOKED AT HIM HIM, HIS UNCOMBED HAIR UNDER A FLATENED HAT, LONG WRINKED COAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS JULY, BAGGY PANTS WITH HOLES IN THEM.

WELL THEY HAD TO GIVE HIM A APPLICATION.

HE SAT DOWN AT A DESK FACING ME. HE KEPT LOOKING AT ME & I KEPT LOOKING AT HIM. FINALLY I FELT SO SORRY FOR HIM I WENT & GOT HIM A CUP OF COFFEE WHICH HE DRANK RIGHT DOWN.

THEN HE LEFT AS QUICKLEY AS HE CAME.

I WENT OVER & PICKED UP HIS APPLICATION & WAS BLANK........I KNEW THE LORD HAD SENT THIS "BUM AS A SIGN."

“I KNEW I WAS CHILD OF THE KING.”
